Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The Department of Social Work at The University of North Carolina Greensboro is searching for three faculty positions, at tenure-track Assistant, tenured Associate, or tenured Full professor level. The positions are available effective August 1, 2024, and are 9-month faculty appointments. The person in this position will also be expected to teach in the BSW and MSW programs primarily with some involvement in the Ph.D. UNCG’s JMSW and JPHD are joint programs operated with North Carolina Agriculture and Technology State University (an HBCU).
Now is an especially exciting time for the department as we enter into over forty years of partnership with the Department of Sociology and Social Work at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NCA&T) a historically black university (HBCU). Specifically, the MSW program is a joint program with the Department of Sociology and Social Work at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NCA&T); and the BSW Program has a 50+ year joint field program with NCA&T. The Department has approximately 300 BSW majors, 90 MSW students, 40 JPHD students, and 13 full-time faculty.
Position Summary
The Department has CSWE-accredited BSW and MSW programs and National Council for
Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE)-accredited BSW and MSW school social work licensure programs. The Department has external funding from the National Institute of Health, HRSA, Moses Cone Health Foundation, as well as North Carolina Child Welfare Education and other sources.

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must possess an MSW and a doctorate in social work or a related social science field and have at least two years of post-master’s practice experience.
Additionally, the successful candidate must:
  • Work effectively within a diverse department and promote a collegial work environment.
  • Be an active citizen in the school and university, with partnering universities and the broader community.
  • Have successfully demonstrated social work teaching, research, and service.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills and enjoy interdepartmental and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Have a record of scholarship appropriate for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor if applicable.
  • Strengthen graduate and undergraduate programs, and support student needs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferably, candidates should also have a track record in securing external funding.
  • The person in this position will have teaching responsibilities across both the BSW and the MSW programs.
  • Experience in PhD teaching and dissertation committee supervision is preferred.
