Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Department of Environmental & Public Health, Administration and Medical Sciences at Eastern Kentucky University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor for Academic Year 2024-2025. Applicants should hold an earned doctorate in Public Health from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. Applicants with a doctorate in a related discipline and a master’s degree in Public Health from accredited institutions at the time of appointment may be considered. The position begins August 2024.
The position serves core and major courses in the department, including courses in the B.S. in Public Health (with Health Promotion and Pre-Professional concentrations) and the Master of Public Health program (with a Health Promotion concentration). Applicants should demonstrate academic training and public health practical experience that complement the department’s expertise and resources. Demonstrated experience with relationship-rich education as well as student academic- and professional-readiness is preferred.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in public health, (including general education, organization, and administration) in a 4/4 annual teaching load. The successful candidate will also develop and maintain an active scholarly agenda, may conduct academic advising, and will participate in service to the department, university, and community to build academic and public health practice collaboration, enhance student learning experiences, and foster relationships to impact the health of our communities. In addition, membership and participation in state, regional, national, or international professional organizations is recommended.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Earned doctorate in Public Health from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. Applicants with a doctorate in a related discipline and a master’s degree in Public Health from accredited institutions at the time of appointment may be considered.

Licensure & Certifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

• A minimum of an equivalent of one (1) year of full-time teaching experience in a public health program.
• A minimum of three (3) years of public health practice experience.
• Experience in obtaining external funding through grants and/or contracts.
• CHES or CPH certification.

Job Duties:

• Maintain a 4/4 teaching load, teaching courses as assigned at the times and in the locations necessary to meet the needs of EKU students
• Utilize effective teaching methods, innovative teaching techniques, and teaching modalities, and multiple evaluation and assessment procedures as a means to help meet the needs of EKU students
• Demonstrate the ability to teach, develop, and implement courses related to one’s curricular area
• Develop and maintain an active research agenda
• Keep up to date with one’s field and curricular areas by reading and reviewing current scholarly or creative works and by attending conferences, seminars, workshops, courses, and faculty development activities
• May advise students in fulfilling program, departmental, college, and university committee assignments
• Demonstrate the willingness and ability to work effectively with colleagues to support the mission of EKU, its academic units, and its campus community
• Demonstrate respect for and support EKU’s diverse campus community and student population
