Position Information
The NOAA Living Marine Resources Cooperative Science Center (LMRCSC) located in the School of Agricultural and Natural Sciences (SANS) at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, invites applications for a 9-month, full-time position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Environmental Social Science, Economics and/or Policy beginning in Fall 2022. 
 
 The Center is a consortium of seven institutions (www.umes.edu/lmrcsc ) with more than 30 scientists who teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and conduct research in NOAA related sciences.  SANS has three departments, including the Department of Natural Sciences (DNS), Department of Agriculture, Food, and Resource Sciences (DAFRS), and Department of Human Ecology (DHE). DNS offers B.S. degrees in various disciplines, M.S and Ph.D. interdisciplinary degree programs in Marine-Estuarine and Environmental Sciences (MEES), M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Toxicology, and a Professional Science Master’s degree in Quantitative Fisheries and Resources Economics. DAFRS offers master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Food and Agricultural Science.  
Responsibilities
  • Teach graduate and undergraduate courses. 
  • Conduct research in his/her field of expertise focusing on human-environmental challenges. 
  • Recruit and mentor graduate students. 
  • Publish in scholarly journals. 
  • Serve as the Social Science Lead for the NOAA LMRCSC
  • Responsible for the creation and delivery of social sciences training content for the Center on topics including policy and fisheries management, cultural interactions with fisheries, social science methodologies in the fisheries sciences, the integration of social sciences into fisheries science research, environmental justice, and other topics. The audience for this training will include both undergraduate and graduate students. 
  • Work collaboratively with environmental/marine, agricultural, and social sciences faculty within SANS at UMES, and across the LMRCSC institutions with NOAA and Center Scientists on Center research projects. 
  • Demonstrate the potential to secure external funding to support research in his or her field of expertise. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned such as participation in faculty committees.

Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in sociology, geography, anthropology, political science, public policy, environmental economics, and/or other social science disciplines from a regionally accredited institution of higher education. 
  • A strong record of scholarly activity as evidenced by publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise at the intersection of natural science-social science-policy such as sustainability science, socio-ecological systems, and fisheries management.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Ability to use quantitative methodologies, including social network analysis, agent-based modeling, and data analytics.
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
