Position Summary

Pediatric Hematologist Oncologist and Physician Scientist with interest/expertise in lab work at Assistant/Associate/Professor of Pediatrics level.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • The position includes care of inpatients and outpatients with a variety of pediatric hematologic and oncologic problems, including those followed in the St. Jude’s Midwest Affiliate.
  • Position includes dedicated time in the lab to conduct individual basic or translational research in pediatric oncology at University of Illinois College of Medicine, Peoria Campus.
  • See referral hematology/oncology consultations from throughout the Central Illinois Region.
  • Fully participate in teaching programs in hematology and oncology for undergraduate medical students and residents and participate in the undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education programs of the Department. 
  • Organize and conduct bench and/or clinical research in the field of pediatric hematology/oncology.
  • Participate in cooperative research efforts and clinical trials research protocols at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee and the Children’s Oncology Group (COG).
  • Perform other duties of a University faculty member including committee assignments, curriculum development, student counseling, and administration, as needed.
 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Eligible for licensure in Illinois.
  • Board certified/eligible in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
  • 3 years of Pediatrics Residency and 3 years of Hematology/Oncology Fellowship
  • MD/DO or equivalent
  • Experience in basic/translational lab work.

Children’s Hospital of Illinois is a major medical facility with 136 beds and a 32-bed critical care unit and the only Level 1 trauma center in Illinois outside of Chicago.  There are existing resources through UICOMP and Children’s Hospital of Illinois for seeding research funding, quality and outcomes focused academic work and innovation in health education.  The Jump Trading Simulation Education Center, a state of the art simulation facility with over 40,000 square feet of space for faculty and other resources, is a joint venture between UICOMP and CHOI and is located on the OSF campus. Learners from the nearly twenty residency and fellowship programs, including pediatrics and medicine/pediatrics, and the four-year medical school train at CHOI and SFMC.
