General Information
James Madison University’s School of Accounting (SOA) invites applications for an Assistant or Associate tenure-track or tenured position starting fall 2024. We invite applicants with qualifications to teach and conduct research in any area of accounting. The successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on university and department-established standards.
The SOA offers the BBA and MSA degrees and first received separate AACSB accounting accreditation in 1985. We were the first accounting program in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the 23rd in the country to receive separate accounting accreditation by AACSB. The SOA’s faculty members work together in a highly collegial environment and have published in high-quality journals. The SOA has strong ties to the profession and is viewed as a prime recruiting school by accounting employers.

Duties and Responsibilities
This position requires teaching undergraduate and graduate accounting courses, conducting research leading to quality peer-reviewed publications, and providing service to students, the department, the profession, and the university in accordance with the College of Business Guidelines for Faculty Qualifications. The teaching load for this position is nine credit hours per semester (3/3). 
Qualifications
Required:
  • A terminal degree in accounting or taxation from an AACSB-accredited institution is required. In addition, candidates must demonstrate the potential for a future or continuing stream of quality scholarly research and excellence in teaching commensurate with the position rank.

 
Preferred:
  • Professional certification (CPA, CMA, or related accounting certificates).
  • Professional accounting experience.

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters of importance related to security and safety. The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.
The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
