Job Summary
The Department of Rehabilitative Sciences at East Tennessee State University (ETSU) invites applicants for a 9-month clinical or tenure-track appointment in the growing undergraduate Rehabilitative Health Sciences (RHSC-BS) program.
The RHSC-BS program focuses on human function, disability, and rehabilitation from the perspectives of the health sciences, social sciences, psychology, and related fields. The degree is unique in offering students interested in the rehabilitative health care professions the opportunity to develop skills in the areas of evidence-based practices, person-centered care, critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration in working with diverse cultures and varied settings.
The successful candidate is expected to participate as a full member of the faculty with all relevant duties, responsibilities, and benefits. The faculty member will be expected to teach a wide range of undergraduate courses in the RHSC-BS curriculum, such as interprofessional rehabilitative practice, culture and disability, neurorehabilitation, ethics, clinical reasoning, disabilities across the lifespan, administrative principles, psychosocial aspects of disability, research, and/or technology in rehabilitation. The candidate may also support undergraduate research and an active student professional organization.
The new faculty member will join a dynamic and growing department of over 30 tenured, tenure-track, clinical-track, and support staff focused on interprofessional education and training. The Department is housed under the College of Clinical and Rehabilitative Health Sciences, which includes numerous undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programs including Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Nutrition, Dietetics, Social Work, Sports Nutrition, Prosthetics, and Orthotics as well as Allied Health Science. The College is part of the University’s Academic Health Sciences division, which also houses the James H. Quillen College of Medicine, the Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy, the College of Public Health, and the College of Nursing.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required Qualifications
  • A terminal academic degree (e.g. PhD, EdD, ScD) in health and rehabilitative sciences or rehabilitative discipline OR a clinical doctorate (e.g. AuD, OTD, DPT, DHSc).
  • A minimum of two (2) years of professional work experience in a field of rehabilitation (e.g. OT, SLP, PT).
  • Professional licensure in one of the following: Audiology, Communication Sciences, Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Pharmaceutical Science, Physical Therapy, Speech Language Pathology, Rehabilitative Counseling, or a closely related field.
  • Strong commitment to undergraduate interprofessional rehabilitation education.
  • Commitment to teaching, scholarship, and service consistent with the mission of the University and priorities of the College.

Candidates considered for a tenure-track position must possess a terminal academic degree by their start date and demonstrate the potential for research productivity.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A terminal degree or clinical doctorate in Speech Language Pathology or Physical Therapy.
  • A proven record of teaching at the university level and research productivity.
  • Potential for professional and scholarly productivity.
  • Demonstrates success in a collaborative environment and/or working with diverse stakeholders.
