The University of Houston (UH) seeks an outstanding clinical researcher to join other clinician-scientists in the Department of Clinical Sciences in the College of Optometry (http://www.opt.uh.edu/ ).  A tenure-track position is open for a promising assistant, associate, or full professor. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct a nationally recognized, independent, externally funded research program in relevant clinical sciences, such as research in clinical outcomes, evidence-based care, and clinical informatics.
All areas in clinical and translational vision research will be considered. The ideal candidate for this position would be a clinician scientist with expertise in clinical outcomes research for the diagnosis and treatment of major diseases and disorders affecting human vision (e.g. glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, diabetes, myopia, strabismus, amblyopia).
The successful applicant will join a diverse group of vision scientists studying normal and abnormal visual processes in humans and animal models, using a variety of approaches ranging from clinical trials to molecular and cellular biological disease mechanisms. The college’s existing research programs are supported by a P30 core grant from the National Eye Institute (NEI), T35 training grant from the NEI to support research training for professional students, support for graduate students, and excellent state-of-the-art clinical, biological, and animal, research facilities. Existing biomedical research strengths within the College, University and the neighboring Texas Medical Center provide a unique environment for collaboration.  A varied patient base provides opportunities for patient-based or translational investigations.
Salary and rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience, and the startup package will be competitive.

Qualifications

: 

Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D., direct clinical training and experience, and a record of high productivity at their current rank.
