Job Description

The Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine seeks a full-time, 12-month, privately funded position at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor rank (commensurate with experience). This role will join the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology and the University Center for Autism and Neurodevelopment within the School of Medicine and develop independent and collaborative research project(s) that have significant potential for external funding. It is a unique opportunity for a self-starter to develop an autism research lab in Northern Nevada. The successful candidate will also participate in training and other scholarly activities and will work with the autism clinic, department chair, and other colleagues across the university to maximize the success and productivity of the autism clinic, department, and institution.

Candidates with research experience in Autism Spectrum Disorder and working with an interdisciplinary team are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant is expected to develop a research laboratory with aid from a research assistant, establish and maintain an active externally funded research program working with an existing data basis and conduct original research; produce quality publications in peer-reviewed journals; present at national and international conferences.

Required Qualification

  • Ph.D. degree from an accredited institution and at least 5 years of postdoctoral experience in autism and neurodevelopmental disorders.
  • Ability to develop and maintain an independent program of research including the ability to secure external research support.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop a lab including, building a team beginning with initial soft funded part-time research assistant, outfit the lab with needed supplies, identify space and research needs.
  • Interact effectively with two entities:  1) Faculty in the department, and 2) An established diverse, multidisciplinary autism assessment group, which includes actively participating with the group that could lead to developing the research agenda.

Department Information

The Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine is composed of a group of faculty members that study a variety of neurodevelopmental and acquired communication disorder topics. The department is unique in that it has several specialty clinics, University Center for Autism and Neurodevelopment, Cleft Palate, Aphasia, Transgender Voice, Swallowing, Literacy and Reading. The candidate will interface with the autism clinic. There are nine academic faculty: six tenured faculty and three non-tenure track faculty. The faculty are active in obtaining external federal grants. The faculty dedicate a substantial amount of time to teaching students.
