The Department of Forest Engineering, Resources, and Management invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 9-month, tenure-track/tenured Assistant/Associate/Full Professor position.

This position will support the teaching, research, and service missions of the Department of Forest Engineering, Resources, and Management and the College of Forestry by providing leadership that helps the Pacific Northwest Forest sector remain competitive in the global marketplace and helps maintain economic value in forestlands.
This position represents a key role in shaping the future of forest operations management within Oregon State University and across the forestry sector of Oregon and the world. This position is envisioned as a beacon of innovation, expertise, and leadership, reflecting the College's commitment to excellence in education, research, and community engagement.
The position is designed for an individual who can integrate forest management, forest operations, and forest engineering in their teaching and research. The incumbent is expected to emerge as a prominent leader or an ascending star in their field. They will be expected to provide visible disciplinary leadership, advance the mission of the college and department to stakeholders, and disseminate knowledge and its applications to students, the scientific community, forestry practitioners, and policymakers.
The incumbent will teach 1–2 undergraduate courses in forestry and forest engineering in addition to at least one graduate-level course in their area of expertise. As a member of the forestry and forest engineering faculty, the incumbent will be responsible for delivering quality instruction and helping to maintain accreditation by the Society of American Foresters (SAF) and the ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission for the Forestry and Forest Engineering undergraduate degree programs.
The incumbent will enjoy extensive opportunities for innovative research collaboration and cooperation across many programs in the COF and OSU. FERM is one of three departments in COF, a nationally and internationally recognized program of excellence in multiple aspects of forestry, social and environmental systems, and wood science.

Minimum Qualifications (Staff) / Guidelines (Faculty):

Typically requires PhD or terminal degree (Masters for some Extension positions and MLS for Library positions), demonstrated ability to teach in a classroom Extension, or other setting, and develop a research program in the academic discipline/unit.

Requirements :

  • Completed Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) in Forest Operations, Forest Business, Forest Economics, Forest Engineering, Forest Management, or other closely related field and relevant experience to Forestry.
  • Life experience, training, or education that demonstrates a commitment to promoting and enhancing equity and diversity and creating an inclusive work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach courses in forest operations, forest engineering, and forest management.
  • Effective communication skills that enable collaboration with a broad spectrum of students, teachers, researchers, natural resource professionals, public officials, and external groups such as industry and family forest owners, tribes, and agencies.

  • Candidate should meet the OSU teaching, advising, research, and service criteria for appointment at the desired rank (see the OSU Faculty Handbook for details). OSU will consider previous years of experience at other, similar institutions towards timelines for rank or tenure promotions.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

The ability to work in varied fields and weather conditions is required as needed; this includes extensive walking/hiking on uneven ground and uncomfortable weather conditions (e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind, poison oak, heavy pollen counts). The position requires travel to research sites, workshops, and conference venues.
