McGovern Medical School  at UTHealth Houston , a leading academic health center, invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), faculty position in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science.

 

The selected candidate will contribute to the department’s mission to educate health science professionals, discover and translate advances in the biomedical and social sciences, and model the best practices in clinical care and public health through research, teaching, clinical service, administrative activities, and other services.

 

UTHealth Houston hosts a dynamic research community, consisting of six (6) schools and dozens of research centers and institutes.  There are numerous opportunities for collaboration within the Texas Medical Center.  Faculty members can participate in well-established graduate programs at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center UTHealth Houston Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences , providing access to exceptional graduate students.

 

 

Position Key Accountabilities:

 

We are looking for individuals who possess exceptional expertise in various aspects of visual sciences.  This encompasses a broad spectrum of specializations, such as glaucoma, cornea, neuroscience, retinal cell biology, the development of the visual system, research into degenerative diseases affecting the visual apparatus, and advancements in the field of regenerative medicine.

 


Qualifications:

 

Successful candidates must hold a PhD, MD, or equivalent degree and demonstrate a track record of publications in leading peer-reviewed journals.  Candidates with a proven record of independent, extramural research funding will receive priority consideration.  Investigators will be appointed at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level, based on qualifications and experience. 

 

We offer excellent facilities, including an imaging facility, generous start-up funds, and comprehensive administrative and operational support.  Salaries will be commensurate with qualifications and per the University's pay scales.
