Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) University Advancement (UA) is seeking a dynamic professional to join our team as an Assistant or Associate Director, Development for the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med). The main function of the position(s) is to solicit major gifts (defined as $10,000 and above) payable over five years in support of University of Nevada, Reno college/school/unit/programs and/or projects including, but not limited to, scholarship(s), programs, projects (capital annual and others), endowments, planned gifts, and expendable funds.  The degree of autonomy and level of gifts expected for successful performance evaluation varies by the level of the position. ADoD positions report to the Director/Senior Director, Advancement for UNR Med.

The incumbent will maintain focus on prospect research and gift solicitation, maintain knowledge of the overall portfolio and gift funds, engage with the alumni association, and coordinate donor relations and stewardship activities. The position will also coordinate advancement related events. The ADoD, in collaboration with management, will engage in activities which are in support of the UNR Med strategic plan, mission, vision and values.

 

Evaluation of a development director is based on reaching measurable goals (known as metrics) as outlined in his/her Individual Performance Objectives (IPO) document or annual plan.  Progression through the line of progression is based upon consistently meeting and exceeding defined and communicated metrics (as agreed to in the annual IPO and signed by supervisor and employee).  Annual evaluations of at least an Excellent 3 or 4. Emphasis is placed on monthly and yearly meetings, initial contacts, proposals submitted, proposals funded, and actual money raised as well as performing consistently within the timelines set by Development and Alumni Relations (DAR).

 

For DAR, fundraising experience is defined as having a background in cold-calling, face-to-face solicitations and moves management. Annual giving and event fundraising, while helpful, are not given the same weight as direct, one-on-one interaction with individuals when defining work experience for the professional levels.

The Assistant Director, Development, is a junior-level professional with knowledge of the basic aspects of fundraising, limited fundraising experience. The ASDOD reports to the Executive Director of Development (EDOD) or AVP and indirectly to the dean or administrator of the school, college, unit, or program.  The ASDOD is jointly evaluated by the EDOD or AVP and the appropriate administrator.  Additionally, DAR may hire an ASDOD that is only a direct report to the EDOD or AVP for specific projects or programs. 

The Associate Director, Development, is a mid-level development professional with knowledge of most aspects of fundraising, moderate fundraising experience. The ADOD reports to the EDOD or AVP and indirectly to the dean or administrator of the school, college, unit, or program.  The ADOD is jointly evaluated by the EDOD or AVP and the appropriate administrator.   Additionally, DAR may hire an ADOD that is only a direct report to the EDOD or AVP for specific projects or programs. 

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of related work experience OR

Master’s Degree and one (1) year of related work experience

Related Experience: Fundraising or similar experience

Associate Director

Bachelor’s Degree and three (3) years of related work experience OR

Master’s Degree and two (2) years of related work experience

Related Experience: Fundraising or similar experience

Schedule or Travel Requirements: 

•    Frequent local travel

•    Occasional out of state travel

•    Variable work schedule to include nights and weekends
