Context of the Job:

Under the limited direction of the Director of Assessment, Data Analytics, and Research, the Assessment and Research Analyst has primary responsibility for supporting data collection, analysis, reporting and dissemination of information within the Division of Student Life. The position supports assessment, data analytics, and research needs across Student Life units and collaborates with campus partners, as necessary, to achieve work goals. The Assessment and Research Analyst will support and advance a culture of evidence within the Division of Student Life by developing projects and analyses for the purpose of improvement of the student experience, student success, equity, inclusion, and belonging.  The person in this role should possess in-depth analytic, technical, and creative problem-solving skills and be independent, detail-oriented, and able to think critically about complex systems.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and analyze information to support new and ongoing assessment and research projects, including those related to co-curricular student learning, co-curricular engagement, benchmarking, program evaluation, and organizational development.
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative techniques and methods to collect, organize, analyze, and interpret data.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of project processes and analysis steps.  
  • Lead research teams comprised of Student Life staff and other campus collaborators in the collection, analysis, and reporting of data.
  • Infuse equitable and culturally responsive practices in assessment and research processes.
  • Assist Director in the implementation of a comprehensive staff training program to develop assessment and data analysis competencies.
  • Lead collaborative assessment and research projects designed to inform student success, retention, and belonging. Collaborate with key stakeholders on interpretations, feedback, and outcomes.
  • Provide evaluation and analytic support for the Division of Student Life Advancing Racial Equity and Inclusion plan.
  • Prepare correspondences, reports, and presentations related to assessment and research projects for technical and non-technical audiences that easily and visually identifies process, findings, and interpretations and incorporates current trends, best practices, and scholarship.
  • Recommend strategies to implement departmental or programmatic changes based upon assessment and research results.
  • Maintain surveys, data, reports, presentations, and all files related to research and assessment projects in clearly organized, updated, and secure formats.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Institutional Equity, Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness, Center for Teaching and Assessment of Learning and other key university stakeholders to execute assessment and research activities.
  • Engage in on-going professional development that includes skill enhancement through participation in professional associations and scholarly activities.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in educational research or assessment, higher education administration, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Strong proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research and assessment methods, with demonstrated experience in research design, analysis, and reporting findings.
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis (e.g., SPSS, SAS, Excel, NVivo).
  • Experience with survey design and tools (e.g., Qualtrics).
  • Experience preparing assessment and research findings for multiple, diverse audiences.
  • Experience applying research findings in an applied setting, especially one related to higher education.
  • Commitment to fostering a workplace culture of belonging, where diversity is celebrated, and equity is a core value.
  • Knowledge of student development and learning and higher education research and scholarship.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community and rapidly changing technical environment.
  • Ability to work independently to accomplish assigned goals and objectives in a timely manner with great attention to details and accuracy.
  • Excellent skills in communication (verbal and written), interpersonal relationships, and critical thinking.
