Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama, one year of residence hall, student affairs, or directly related experience, and possession of a valid driver’s license and maintenance of a driving record sufficient to maintain insurance coverage under the University of South Alabama. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
This is a live-in position, with on-campus housing and meal plan provided by the University.
Preferred Qualifications
A master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, or a closely related field is preferred.

Essential Functions


These are the job duties required of the position.


Essential Functions
This position performs the functions listed below for the Beta and Gamma residencies on campus:
  • Supervises, hires, and trains Resident Assistants (RA) and Desk Assistants.
  • Leads weekly paraprofessional staff meetings.
  • Conducts biweekly one-to-ones with RA staff.
  • Participates in staff selection processes.
  • Provides leadership and direction for all aspects of residence hall operations.
  • Supports all RA in-service training topics and dates per academic year.
  • Responsible for review of the daily report and follow-up with student conduct violations and concerns as needed.
  • Serves as advisor/driver for student trips and conferences using a University vehicle.
  • Administers and oversee Health and Safety Inspections.
  • Serves on an on-call rotation.
  • Assists in the development of effective community standards for all residential communities.
  • Serves as an advisor for student groups as necessary.
  • Provides proper management of all Programming/Community Development records and documentation.
  • Serves as the resource for community-wide programs each semester.
  • Oversees student leadership development.
  • Challenges and upholds standards for inappropriate behavior, policy adherence, and community development.
  • Develop a strong sense of community in each residential community.
  • Ensures that each RA is familiar with their residents and conducts regular meetings with residents.
  • Provides leadership and direction for all aspects of community programming.
  • Maintains accurate, updated records of all programming/community development efforts.
  • Processes program proposals and evaluations in a timely and efficient manner and ensures programming efforts adhere to the programming model.
  • Serves as a coordinator for selected community-wide programs each semester such as OktSOBERFest (October).
  • Provides basic resources and student referrals.
  • Demonstrates ability to report Title IX concerns and/or other issues as appropriate.
  • Informs Assistant Director of counseling issues, situations, and referrals in a timely manner.
  • Provides referrals to the appropriate personnel, offices, or areas as needed based upon individual circumstances and situations.
  • Maintains standard professional business hours while also working after hours, evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Interacts by phone, letter, or in person directly with staff and University colleagues with the ability to respond to emergencies within 10 minutes.
  • Performs as essential personnel (e.g. the ability to remain or arrive to campus in the event of a critical time, i.e. hurricane, tornado, etc.)
  • Supports all aspects of residential area hall opening, closing, and break housing.
  • Assumes overall responsibility of residential area key control and accountability.
  • Ensures appropriate area coverage for normal business hours, evenings, and special events.
  • Ensures proper administration of all payroll records to include timesheets and timecards.
  • Facilitates the community housing assignments process.
  • Assists with all trainings, openings, closings, “USA Days,” RA selection, and other events as needed.
  • Provides proper management of room inspections (e.g. StarRez forms, Room Changes, and effective housing assignments to include room audits, rosters, etc.).
  • Executes administrative operations such as non-payment removal, non-enrollment removal, administrative removals, etc.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Housing Administration (e.g. StarRez Administration, room changes, check-ins, check-outs, student conduct administration, etc.).
  • Manages administration of various housing software systems (e.g StarRez, Maxient, etc.).
  • Provides oversight for residence hall key and card access.
  • Manages all staff supplies.
  • Serves on departmental or University committees as assigned.
  • Maintains the budget.
  • Serves as liaison with Housing Facilities in respect to custodial and maintenance concerns with the physical environment.
  • Institutes and maintains an effective maintenance follow-up system.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required.
  • Related duties as required.
