Job Details
The Art Director for Archarios is responsible for the creative direction and production of a student-driven art and literary magazine, Archarios, which is currently published once a year. The magazine falls under the management of The Athenaeum Press, the student-driven publishing lab at Coastal Carolina University.
General Requirements
  • Must complete seminars held by Athenaeum Press staff prior to start of work
  • Must be available for weekly all-staff meetings
  • Maintain minimum of ten (10) scheduled office hours per week with other publication paid staff members
  • Develops and implements ideas for the expansion of the magazine and Athenaeum Press
  • Attends all training and development sessions, including applicable conferences
  • Represent the Press and respective projects at external events

Leadership and Planning
  • Meets regularly with adviser(s)
  • Works with staff on artistic direction of the magazine
  • Works with Editor on designing and deciding year’s design/production specifications
  • Recruits prospective Archarios staff members
  • Fills in for Editor when necessary

Management
  • Coordinates productions flow
  • Coordinates photographer, art/layout staff, and contributing artists
  • Makes certain that all artwork is reviewed
  • Maintains all contributing artist’s notes
  • Responsible for requesting and maintaining art supplies

Publication Workflow
  • Meets and consults with printer and digital editor
  • Responsible for manually laying out magazine
  • Presents mock proofs and roughs at staff meetings
  • Helps organize and coordinate submissions with Editor
  • Checks proofs with Editor

Required Qualifications
  • Must have and maintain a cumulative 2.5 GPA
  • Must be a full-time student (minimum of 12 semester hours) and not on academic or disciplinary probation
  • For Art Director positions, student must be currently enrolled in ARTD 202 or have already completed the class.

Preferred Qualifications
Work with on a multipage publication, periodical, or magazine. Collaborative experience working with visual and content teams.
