Applied Research Engineer 1 in the Center for Automotive Research (CAR), this position reports to CAR Assistant Professor, Qadeer Ahmed, and assists in CAR’s research objectives to study, evaluate, and design the next generation of electrified, connected and autonomous driving systems; collaborates and assists on research on modeling, optimization and control, both model-based and data-driven, of advanced automotive systems; assists in software tools for learning based controls for connected and automated vehicles; helps in preparing and presenting paper/reports; writes, assists in editing and/or approving progress and technical reports for sponsors; assists in editing research results for publication and presentation; assists in identifying, writing and preparing proposals to pursue new funding opportunities; collaborate in planning and coordinating meetings with governmental and industrial partners; The research will be part of an interdisciplinary and highly collaborative team, working on multiple research projects with students, CAR-affiliated faculty, and senior research staff.

Experience:
Required:
1-3 years of experience in machine learning and optimal control with application to automotive and transportation systems; proficiency with engineering
software for mathematical simulation (Matlab/Simulink)and control platform (dSpace, ETAS, microcontrollers); experience in model-based control and modeling design in Matlab/Simulink.
Desired:
Experience with designing experimental setups for the validation of models and control algorithms. Experience with machine learning and control
prototyping (SIL/HIL) is highly desired.
The target hiring range for this job profile is $25.87- $34.47. The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limit to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
