The Animal Caretaker II provides routine care for animals and related facilities.

What you need to know

Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.

Required Education:

• High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Experience:

•  Two years related experience in animal handling and animal care.

Preferred Experience:

• More than two years related experience in animal handling and animal care.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Ability to comprehend instructions

Responsibilities:

• Maintains a Clean and Sanitary Working Environment: Maintains clean and sanitary patient cages and runs. Sweeps and mops floors, washes dishes, performs laundry duties (includes removal of soiled laundry, collection of clean laundry, folding and storage of linens), removes trash, and cleans and packages oxygen hoses, bandage materials, and other items for sterilization. Maintains outdoor exercise yard in a clean and sanitary manner. Maintains a clean and sanitary working environment in the Isolation ward while patients are hospitalized in the ward. Performs other chores as needed.

• Stocks and Maintains Inventory in ICU: Stocks and maintains inventory in ICU.

• Performs and Records Daily Patient Census: Performs and records daily patient census.

• Provides Patient Restraint for Technicians, Students, and Clinicians: Provides patient restraint for technicians, students, and clinicians.

• Back-up Duties: Provides support to other services within the VMTH.  Remains current with safety classes and rabies prophylaxis. Participates in clinical and basic research programs as needed within the terms of my employment. Assists in clinical research efforts to include record-keeping and data management. Performs other duties as assigned.
