Summary

The successful applicant will have experience in medical education, participation in educational programs in a medical school and/or a health profession school, participation in curriculum development, and in direct teaching of the anatomical science topics, such as human gross anatomy, histology, embryology and/or neuroanatomy in both lecture and lab settings.  The faculty rank is at the instructor level with a minimum degree of Master of Science. This individual will also work with Willed Body Program (WBP) directors and the lab managers to maintain anatomy lab facility and teaching specimens.

 

This is a full time teaching position with an appointment in the Department of Education, Innovation, and Technology (EIT) on the main campus of Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. The candidate will report directly to the director of the Anatomical Education Core (AEC) for work assignment and daily operations. Team-teaching and collaboration are necessary to accomplish the tasks of AEC. Supervision of students (medical of health professional), teaching assistants, residents, and staff members as needed. The candidate is required to conduct scholarly activities, such as educational research projects for promotion. The candidate is also required to participate in the activities, such as educational training programs, held by the department of EIT. Promotion will be dependent on collaborative supports from the AEC and department of EIT. The candidate will also work closely with, and under the leadership of, the executive director of the Willed Body Program (WBP) on handling human body donations and human body specimens.


Job Duties
  • Direct involvement in the education activities of School of Medicine and/or School of Health Professions. This includes didactic lectures, human gross anatomy dissection labs, histology labs, and neuroanatomy labs.
  • Collaborate with faculty members and instructional design core to develop examination materials.
  • Develop or assist to develop teaching specimens for anatomy courses, such as prosectioned cadavers and regional body structures.
  • Assist course director in course reviews.
  • Provide guidance to teaching assistants in gross anatomy, histology, and neuroanatomy labs.
  • Maintain and organize teaching specimens and teaching materials, including human cadavers, prosections, anatomy models, computers, and dissection tools.
  • Participate in regular cadaver and specimen inventory inspections with the anatomical embalmers/lab manager.
  • Participate in curriculum committee activities of School of Medicine and School of Health Professions to assist in curriculum development and anatomy course design.
  • Participate in faculty development and training for teaching.
  • Provide innovative teaching ideas and methods in anatomy education.
  • Provide suggestions to course directors and school leaderships about anatomy education.
  • Provide support to the executive director of the Willed Body Program (WBP) during inspections

Minimum Qualifications
  • An earned master’s degree in sciences
  • One to three full years experiences in teaching a cadaveric lab dissection-based human gross anatomy course involving all systems and body regions with medical or health professional students.
