Department Summary

The Oregon Career Information System (Oregon CIS), designated by Executive Order No. 01-08 as the state’s official career information delivery system, is a consortium of state and local agencies devoted to developing and disseminating current, state-based career information. Administered by the University of Oregon as an outreach center within the College of Education, Oregon CIS maintains a network of linkages with data-producing agencies, education service districts, school districts, community colleges, and over 600 user sites throughout the state. With funds from consortium members, Oregon CIS maintains a staff to produce career planning information and support materials, to manage computerized delivery systems and other products, and to provide training and support to user agencies and schools.


Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to develop and support online applications and back-end systems related to career awareness, exploration, and planning under the direction of the Director. The position also provides back-up support to other technical team members which may require cross-training.

Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to: Implementing front-end interfaces, utilizing appropriate front-end development tooling and resource management systems, working with other developers by documenting and testing code, and managing relational databases under the direction of the Director. This position will be responsible to stay current and implement relevant technology, security practices, and development methodologies.

This position reports to the Director of the Oregon Career Information System.


Minimum Requirements

This position requires a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in systems analysis and related programming support functions generally obtained by a bachelor's degree in computer science, or an equivalent amount of training and applied experience.


Professional Competencies

• Ability to perform interactive debugging and to test and analyze program failures.
• Working understanding of software security and implementation practices.
• Ability to effectively communicate, in person and in writing with Oregon CIS staff and clients.
• Ability to navigate multiple projects and deadlines with competing priorities through proactive ownership of the project and collaboration requirements.
• Ability to work independently and in teams, providing and receiving peer review of code and design patterns.
• Ability and willingness to maintain competency with the latest technology and online software and database development practices.


Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with at least one back-end software language.
• Experience with at least one modern front-end framework.
• Experience developing a professional project using ASP.NET Web Forms/C# and/or MVC/MVP.
• Experience with at least one relational database.
