Job Description

The School of Animal Sciences is seeking applicants for a Agricultural Manager position to coordinate animal care activities, within the implementation of research protocols and serve as the intermediate between daily farm operations and the poultry programs. Responsible for daily management and maintenance of facilities and oversee the welfare of poultry flocks associated with departmental research. To help ensure that research and teaching protocols are maintained efficiently and accurately at the Glade Road Poultry Center. Additional duties include manage feed inventory, maintain and run basic feed mill equipment, manage facility schedule and billing. This individual will be required to effectively communicate across multiple farm users to ensure smooth farm operations. Assist in other farm activities as necessary for the success of the school. Employee will assist in teaching students in our Introductory to Animal Sciences lab class.


Required Qualifications

B.S. or Associate degree (or equivalent applicable experience or training) with relevant experience in Poultry Science, Animal Science or a related field; Knowledge of farm operations, equipment, and maintenance specifically including poultry physiology, environmental regulation, disease prevention and biosecurity; Basic computer skills; Capability of physical activity including lifting up to 70 lbs.; Valid driver's license; No exposure to any avian or swine species outside of the workplace.


Preferred Qualifications

Work experience in poultry and other farm species and specifically research animals with supervisory skills; Ability to work effectively across multiple farm units and ability to balance the diverse needs of the research and teaching faculty users; Ability or willingness to perform tasks such as vaccine administration, euthanasia, necropsy and blood collection on research animals.
