Job Description
The TRIO Educational Talent Search Planner/Advisor will establish, coordinate, and conduct activities to inform low-income, first-generation persons about available financial aid and post-secondary education opportunities; and assist individuals in selecting, applying for, and gaining financial assistance to enroll in postsecondary education programs. This position is based on ISU's Pocatello campus and is responsible for serving 210 students.
Key Responsibilities
1) Recruitment and documentation (30% time spent)
- Recruit potential participants and secure appropriate documentation of eligibility (in alignment with federal income guidelines)
- Maintain accurate and confidential records for all students in the position caseload, including college/career plans, transcripts, test scores, scholarships, GPA, and events attended
- Review student caseload on an ongoing basis
- Maintain student files with all necessary physical documentation to ensure compliance with federal requirements
2) Academic Planning (40% time spent)
- Provide academic assistance at target schools at least weekly, including class selection, study skills, goal setting, time management, and career interest inventories
- Develop and maintain strong, trust-based working relationships with participants while ensuring program services are delivered according to grant requirements
- Provide information to students regarding postsecondary opportunities including admissions, FAFSA completion, and scholarships
- Assist students in completing applications for admissions, scholarships, and financial aid; preparing and sending applications for admission and scholarships; and communication with postsecondary institutions
3) Workshops, events, college visits, and other duties as assigned (30% time spent)
- Develop, coordinate and participate in parent/financial aid nights, career field trips, college campus visits, and service learning events
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in
an academic discipline, education, student personnel, counseling, or other related area.
Experience
in working with underrepresented student populations.
Experience in working with high school students.
Excellent
interpersonal and communication skills.
Valid driver's license & access to reliable transportation is required.
Evening,
weekend, and overnight availability as needed
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree.
Knowledge
of recruitment strategies for limited-income and first-generation students.
Knowledge
of target area (south-central Idaho).
Experience
with state or federal record keeping.
Bilingual fluency in Spanish/English
Experience or background that aligns with personal, socioeconomic, cultural, or academic backgrounds to target population(s).
Experience and knowledge of Federal TRIO programs.
Additional Information

Salary will be $42,508 per year, commensurate with education and experience.
