Description:

The APP (APRN or PA) is responsible for the health outcome of an assigned patient population and consults and confers with supervising physicians in an area of clinical expertise within the APP's scope of licensure. This includes completion of a health assessment, determining diagnosis, planning and prescribing treatment within the parameters of medical staff privileges at UI Health and area of expertise. The UroGynecology practice will be a mixed-visit model in collaboration with UroGynecologists, in which the APP sees patients independently as well as in shared visits as appropriate. The APP participates in the educational experiences of medical students, residents, and other healthcare disciplines.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Perform an accurate history and physical examination of patients, conduct comprehensive or episodic health assessments, develop patient care plans, order and interpret tests, treatments, and therapies
- Order prescriptions and refills for UroGynecologic patients and prescribe medications, diet, supplies, prosthetic devices, and other home health aides or medication according to clinical privileges and within the scope of practice
- Independently monitor and evaluate patients returning for follow-up appointments, including medication and pessary management
- Provide prevention strategies and management of acute and chronic health problems and performs other procedures according to clinical delineation of privileges
- Integrate evidence-based knowledge and clinical expertise in decision-making
- Provide clear, concise, accurate, and legible documentation regarding patient care in the medical record and assist in obtaining medical records of patients from non-UIH facilities
- Work collaboratively with other providers in the care of patients, lead multidisciplinary teams to provide integrated delivery of patient care services, and act as a resource for clinical staff in the practice setting
- Round with the UroGynecology Team on inpatient admissions, and record, and follow up on their daily progress
- Participate in the development, implementation and administration of patient education programs, such as pre-operative instructions and counseling, provide comprehensive teaching strategies for patients and their families using established educational materials, provide formal and/or informal education or mentorship to both internal and external groups pertinent to the area of specialty, and advocate for patients and their families
- Participate in research activities, including consenting patients, and collecting data and/or feedback on research initiatives
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from a nationally accredited APRN or PA training program
- Current license as a Professional Registered Nurse and APRN or as a Physician Assistant in the state of Illinois
- Current National Certification as Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP-BC)/Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification (AGACNP-BC) by American Nurse Credentialing Center(ANCC) OR as a Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C)by the Nationally accredited and recognized certifying body Commission on Certification of Physicians Assistants (NCCPA)
- Current controlled substance licensure
- Current BLS certification
- Minimum of two years experience as an APP (APRN or PA)
- Have demonstrated proficiency or willingness to learn urodynamic testing and pessary placement
- Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between physician, APP's, as well as college and hospital leadership and the multi-disciplinary team
- Demonstrated experience in multidisciplinary collaboration, interpersonal communication, education, and clinical experience and change management
- Knowledge of effective documentation in the medical record to substantiate accurate billing

Preferred Qualifications:
- Clinical experience in gynecology care setting
- Experience working in an academic medical center
