Organizational Unit Overview
The Division is at an inflection point with an accelerated growth phase. The Division, one of only four academic Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine programs in North Carolina offering a three-year fellowship, has a broad-based faculty with interests and expertise in all aspects of the specialty including, outpatient consultative care, Medical Critical Care, and all procedural aspects of the specialty, including interventional pulmonology and medical thoracoscopy.
Our specialists in respiratory diseases (Pulmonologists) treat lung and breathing problems. We treat patients in our clinic and in the hospital, including those in intensive care. Our offices are located on the first floor of the Moye Medical Building across from the Brody School of Medicine.
Job Duties
The advanced practice provider (APP) will be responsible for seeing scheduled, established patients as their health care provider in the outpatient Pulmonary clinic. The APP will provide comprehensive disease management to follow-up adult patients, including but not limited to patients with asthma, COPD, Sarcoid. The employee will see new patients in the clinic for pre-operative evaluation, including but not limited to Kidney Transplant, Gastric Bypass. The APP extender will see urgent care patients in the clinic for upper respiratory infections, asthma exacerbation, etc. and will be one of the principal contacts for patients contacting by telephone. They may assist patients in the hospital during inpatient admission to maintain continuity of care.

The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is affiliated with ECU Health Medical Center, which serves as its teaching hospital, as well as the flagship hospital for ECU Health.
Employment in this position provides eligibility to participate in the UNC Optional Retirement Program (ORP) which offers matching employer contributions and employee control of investment choices, along with eligibility to participate in various Voluntary Supplemental Retirement Plans (401k, 403b. 457).  This position is not eligible to participate in the NC Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS). Additionally, this position offers multiple voluntary options for Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance as well as various supplemental plans including Critical Illness, Flexible Spending Accounts, Cancer, and Disability. 
Minimum Education/Experience
Graduation from a physician assistant program approved by the N.C. Board of Medical Examiners and “approved to practice medical acts” based on education and experience by the Board of Medical Examiners and two years of experience in the specialty area of assignment; or licensed as a registered nurse by the Board of Nursing and graduation from a nurse practitioner program approved by the N.C. Joint Subcommittee, and two years of experience in the specialty area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
License or Certification required by statute or regulation
