Job Summary
Responsibilities
- Works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, using advanced clinical skills to manage a caseload of patients seeking care for weight management.
- Performs the assessment, diagnosis, initiation of delegated medical treatments, independent pharmacological interventions, and evaluation of care.
- Provides a model of care shaped by theory, expanded by science, research, and reflective practice, and identified by a holistic and comprehensive approach to the patients.
- Provides support and follow-up care for obesity management, digestive diseases, and endocrinological ailments to patients in an outpatient setting.
- May be trained and may be responsible for performing certain diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures in the outpatient setting.
- Demonstrates ability to appropriately perform telephone triage regarding patient concerns and complaints, with appropriate communication.
- Conducts comprehensive or episodic health assessments of patients, gathering pertinent information in a systematic manner from varied sources.
- Differentiates normal and abnormal variations in organ systems.
- Analyzes all sources of data and establishes a medical/nursing diagnosis; initiates and evaluates diagnostic studies and monitors therapeutic procedures and the patient's response to therapy.
- Formulates a plan of care in collaboration with the patient, family members, physician, and other members of the health care team.
- Monitors GI and Endocrine diseases and other comorbid conditions, and incorporates assessment findings into the plan of care.
- Provides anticipatory guidance to patients and their families about the course of therapeutic options available.
- Performs, interprets, monitors, and communicates the results of diagnostic tests.
- Counsels patients about lifestyle modifications, medication regimens, side effects, and interactions using appropriate psychosocial communication.
- Recognizes an emergency situation and initiates appropriate emergency care.
- Identifies complications requiring collaboration and consultation, initiating appropriate action.
- Promotes, has knowledge of, and utilizes appropriate patient care protocols that relate to the physiological and psychological needs of weight management patients.
- Schedules follow-up visits to appropriately monitor patients, the progression of the disease, and their response to therapy.
- Establishes appropriate priorities of care.
- Evaluates goals and outcomes taking into account the benefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness for the patient, family and the organization.
- Develops diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patient’s plan of care.
- Performs other related work as needed.

- Prior experience in pharmacological management of obesity.
- Working in an environment affiliated with an academic medical center.
Certifications:
- Once licensed and as needed, willing to apply for a mid-level practitioner controlled substance license and DEA number.
- Willing to be privileged and credentialed through UCM Medical Staff Office prior to start date.
