Required Minimum Qualifications:
Associate’s degree or equivalent certification in a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredited program and one year of related experience. Certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Possession of current Iowa Permit to Practice.


Preferred Qualifications:
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists for Radiography registered or board eligible for registration in computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance Imaging (MRI)
Bachelors degree in Radiation Therapy
Previous experience administering ionizing radiation to patients
Exposure to working around animals
Animal Handling experience
Experience working in a veterinary clinic.


Job Description:

Summary
The Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC) in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is now accepting positions for an advanced Imaging Technologist in the hospitals Radiology section. LVMC provides specialized care and comprehensive medical and surgical services for companion, equine, and food animals throughout Iowa and surrounding states. Our clinicians, residents, interns, technicians, staff, and senior veterinary students work in teams to provided 24-hour, state of the art care.

The Imaging Technologist is required to utilize imaging techniques to obtain a variety of images for diagnostic use of clinical or research patients on a variety of species by performing diagnostic radiological imaging, in a variety of modalities, that may include computerized tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, general radiology, nuclear medicine and fluoroscopy. The Imaging Technologist operates complex imaging equipment and assists clinicians. This position will work independently to produce high quality imaging studies. The Imaging technologist maintains open and positive communications with staff, faculty and other departments while instructing, supervising and evaluating new employees and students.

In addition, maintain quality control in accordance with hospital and radiology departmental standards and assist with preventative maintenance of equipment to minimize technical malfunctions as well as make appropriate adjustments to equipment and patients in the event of an equipment failure.

Excellent interpersonal skills, organizational qualities, and effective oral and written communications are necessary to be successful in this position. The successful candidate will possess the ability to work with and directly supervise the work of others. The ideal candidate will have professional maturity with a leadership style that contributes to a positive culture, and have a compassionate, and empathetic nature towards the clients and patients of the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center. Incumbent will be required to work around radiation and animals on a regular basis.

Scheduled hours: First Shift, 8am -5pm, rotating on call.

Example of Duties

• Manipulates, adjusts and controls the complex electronic and computerized components of imaging systems to produce patient examinations and research projects while performing quality assurance procedures and evaluating system performance. throughout the working day. This includes independent operation with minimal doctor supervision.

• Eliminates or minimizes risks to patients, personnel and equipment by utilizing safety precautions.

• Performs image processing such as 3-D reconstruction and post-image reprocessing.

• Prepares and administers contrast material to patients under radiologist’s supervision as required.

• Maintains records and results of examinations and archive computer data.

• Establishes rapport with ordering service and provides information about how the exam is performed and what is required of the patient.

• Plans regular and STAT scheduling for efficient room utilization.

• Assists with inventory, ordering supplies and maintaining quality assurance in accordance with hospital, department and area standards.

• Provides instruction to trainees, students, and other medical staff on operation and safety precautions.

• Participates in phantom and/or animal research as required.

• Maintains current knowledge of developments in advanced imaging and related subjects with periodic software updates by attending meetings, continuing education programs, participates in professional organizations and/or reviews journals or publications.

• Maintains effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.
