Adult Education Bridge Curriculum Specialist PT (Grant Funded)

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

Reporting to an assigned administrator, the Adult Education Bridge Curriculum Specialist - PT provides instructional leadership and support by coordinating the development of Adult Education Bridge curricula and materials that comply with National Reporting Standards (NRS) and the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) standards while incorporating innovative, student-centered and active learning teaching strategies; implements professional development for Adult Educators both virtually and at all CCC Adult Education sites; and provides coaching and mentoring to Adult Educators that improve their teaching practices and build community.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Designs curriculum customized for a specific CCC pathway in collaboration with Adult Educators and Career Technical Education teams to support students in meeting the following objectives: pass high school equivalence and certification exams, place into college-level English, and successfully complete college credit courses.
  • Reviews the teacher-developed Brightspace course shells to see that they meet internal quality standards as well as contain required Quality Matters materials.
  • Assists in evaluation and selection of textbooks and other resource material.
  • Assists the District & Campus Adult Education Administrators in implementing the instructional programs.
  • Participates in conducting staff development workshops to meet the need to adopt best practices for Bridge instruction, as identified by research.
  • Provides teachers with suggested readings and information about recent theory, research, and practices in literacy instruction as determined by adult reading research.
  • Communicates with teachers on a regular basis regarding instruction, training, materials, and any challenges with Bridge instruction.
  • Co-teaches lessons with teachers and debriefs with them later about instructional strengths and weaknesses.
  • Assists administrators with teacher observations and “walk-throughs.”
  • Provides ongoing support and individual coaching for teachers, as needed.
  • Advocates for effective instructional strategies in Adult Education Bridge courses.
  • Confers regularly with District Director of Adult Education or designee to coordinate District-wide efforts to promote and support best practices in Bridge instruction.
  • Attends instructional meetings.
  • Works effectively and appropriately with the District Office staff, the colleges’ adult education staff and with other departments and entities in order to carry out mission and responsibilities.
  • Adheres to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Curriculum, Instruction, Adult Education or a related field supplemented by a minimum of five years of experience in curriculum and program development for adult learners. Master’s degree is highly preferred.
  •  A minimum of four years of successful adult education classroom teaching in a Bridge program preferred.
  • Experience in course development preferred.
  • Must be a strong planner and facilitator of adult learning communities, with knowledge and skills in the area of classroom observations and feedback. In addition, must have proficient working knowledge of the National Reporting System (NRS) for Adult Education and the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) Adult Education accountability measures; familiarity with the resources of the Illinois Professional Development Network (ILPDN) is desirable.
  • Experience working with learning management systems and online/blended course design standards, such as Brightspace, is preferred.
  • Demonstrated communication (written, speaking and electronic), team-building, organization, problem solving, and prioritization skills.
  • Works well with others.
  • Exhibits a positive attitude and energy.
  • Self-directed and able to prioritize work.
  • Some travel within District required.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
