General Description / Primary Purpose
The Admissions Recruiter participates as a member of the admissions team to engage prospective students, parents, and other constituents with the goal of recruiting students to the university. The Admissions Recruiter is responsible for meeting with groups and individuals, on and off the campus, to provide information about the programs and admissions criteria at the University of North Florida and in the State University System.

Essential Duties


Job Function
The Admissions Recruiter is UNF’s brand ambassador. The Recruiter is responsible for creating UNF’s higher education identity and brand visibility within their assigned territory. As the first face to represent UNF to prospective students and families, is responsible for sharing UNF’s vision and mission. As a brand ambassador the Recruiter builds emotional engagement with a human touch effect, generates a positive word of mouth publicity, and targets UNF’s desired population to brand UNF as an academic quality institution of choice and positions UNF’s Hallmarks including the institution’s student support services. Under the direction of an Assistant Director or above, assists in the design, development and implementation of departmental processes, policies, and/or programs and uses independent judgement to render on the spot admission application decisions at two marquee recruitment events, Apply in July and Instant Decision Days.
As an active member of the UNF admissions team, the Admissions Recruiter is responsible for student recruitment in assigned geographical areas. Serves as a resource and conducts appropriate follow-up contacts with prospective students to encourage and confirm application status, to notify potential students of problems with academic records and application materials, and scholarship awards, programs and/or tuition discount/waivers, participation in events, etc. Represents the University for Undergraduate (FTIC and Transfer) admissions. Frequent contact with prospective students, applicants and their parents, the general public, officials and personnel associated with colleges/community colleges/universities, and high school counselors. Required to be familiar with Department of Education, Florida Board of Governors, and Florida State Statues and House Bills. Responsible for the administration of Florida Board of Governors (BOG) 6.002 and UNF policies and procedures related to applications for admissions, general education requirements and other academic programs and test. Advises student and families regarding admission criteria and interprets test date and grade reports for FTICs and Transfers when necessary. Counsels and interprets UNF and BOG policies and procedures. Carries out the major assignment of representing the University with key contacts including, high school principals/heads of schools, guidance counselors, community partner principals, school district administrators, and teachers. Participates in special events hosted by the Office of Admissions such as college open houses, and workshops. Extensive travel throughout Florida and out of state. Due to travel needs, position requires operation of a motor vehicle. Counsel prospective students and represents the University at sponsored events pertaining to undergraduate admissions and provides information about the University and its programs. Collects and analyzes data as appropriate with discretionary use under FERPA rules from Banner, Slate and other institutional academic records, for use in handling all Enrollment Services activities and to target population for recruitment purposes and effectiveness.

Demonstrates knowledge of university academic and student life programs and athletics information. Staff members will be responsible for the management of their territory as determined by Admissions leadership. Formulates and manages communication (via email and telephone) on an established schedule with prospective students, parents, and community to generate interest in gaining information and applying to an undergraduate program. Uses discretion and expertise to answer, screen and direct inquiries regarding college programs, and investigates and resolves operational matters of significance to the applicant to minimize impact to the University Brand and student experience. Advise applicants of application procedures and requirements for program admission, including Selective Admissions and institutional scholarship programs. Assist in planning and participate in recruitment events, including college and university information sessions that are conducted on-campus, off-campus, and via video conferencing. Assists in the development of programs including but not limited to enrollment marketing publications and communications such as letters, brochures, website postings, emails and other mediums that increase undergraduate applications in assigned territory portfolio, while tracking yield of applicants.

The Admissions Recruiter is responsible for assisting Financial Aid Outreach and Scholarship units with the administration of Institutional Merit Scholarships. Provides subject matter expertise advice on out of state tuition waivers and other specialty programs. Refers specialized scholarship questions to Program Manager and/or senior leadership. Stays current regarding university and college/program policies and share relevant information with department and program staff and faculty. Recruiters are to contribute to strategic initiatives such as enrollment and academic profile goals, commitment to a diverse campus environment, etc. Responsibilities include planning, developing, implementing and monitoring admissions recruitment programs while maintaining workloads, workflows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization of assigned programs. May be asked to serve on University committees as appropriate. The Admissions Recruiter reports to the Director of Admissions. Participate in other Admissions activities as requested which may include the development of advertisements and recruitment literature, and support of transfer students. Assists other sections during peak times in support of the goals of the Division of Enrollment Management. During declared campus emergencies, this position may be required to perform specific job-related duties at a designated off campus location or place of residence.

Knowledge of admissions and financial aid guidelines, standards, and procedures preferred. Must be an enthusiastic supporter of UNF and its programs. Must be willing to travel for extended periods of time in assigned recruitment areas. Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the university and the academic profile expectation and enrollment goals for first time in college students. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, including public speaking skills. Must possess strong detail and time management skills. Ability to work independently and accomplish tasks under deadline stresses. Basic knowledge of word processing and database accessing. Ability to exercise interpersonal skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with prospective students and their parents, faculty, staff, and other external contacts. Commitment to a customer-oriented provision of service.
In this position, work hours will vary. They will include extensive evening and weekend hours. When working in the office, hours are generally 8 AM to 5 PM Monday thru Friday. There may be times, when a staff member may need to be in the office earlier, but the work schedule will be adjusted accordingly. Staff members in this position may not participate in the educational benefit during their first fall semester because it is a peak recruitment season (zero courses).

This position has been designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). This position has been designated as a CSA because it involves significant responsibility for student and campus activities and/or responsibility for campus security. This position has a reporting requirement because the University believes that responsibility for students, campus activities and/or campus security will make the holder of this position someone members of the University community will see as an authority figure and someone to whom they can seek help. A CSA is not expected to investigate or determine whether a criminal incident actually took place. A CSA’s responsibility is a duty to report.
