Position Summary
The Admissions Counselor I is responsible for engaging in recruitment activities and providing direct support to prospective students with applications and application records up to initial university enrollment. As appropriate, position directs students to other university staff to aid with admissions processes. Position reports to the Associate Director of Freshman Admissions.

Description of Job Duties
  • Manages admissions recruiting territory as assigned to include written and verbal communication; travels to assigned areas for the purpose of recruiting prospective students;
  • Tracks student communications and monitors technology used in the admissions process. Helps disseminate university information on programs, terms, admissions requirements, and other related issues as needed to meet goals;
  • Maintains and supports the marketing and information efforts of the Admissions team through web content management systems, phone/texting platforms, social media, video, graphics, printed materials, third party vendors, and related marketing/ promotional material by active interaction with the marketing team;
  • Participates in meetings to discuss strategies to meet recruitment goals;
  • Helps prepare and execute admissions sessions; assists with special events and registration activities.

  • Assists prospective students visiting the campus with questions;
  • Assists with campus visits and collection of documents required for admissions decisions.

  • Assists with and attends campus events to promote, engage and encourage prospective students toward enrollment at UIW;
  • Represents UIW Main Campus at community events and college fairs to promote and display educational options, both locally and within the state of Texas.

  • Reviews prospective student documents toward an admission decision;
  • Updates student records and admissions platforms in an accurate, timely manner; tracks and reports platform usage.

Required Education
Bachelors Degree from an accredited institution.
Required Work Experience
One (1) year of customer service and/or marketing experience working in an office environment.
Preferred Qualifications
One (1) year professional customer service experience in higher education.
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
  • Valid driver license with “Real ID” designation, as required for air travel, or ability to obtain by first day of employment.
  • Must have a driving record that is insurable by UIW insurance carrier, and be at least 21 years of age, as required to drive for UIW.
Work Hours
Monday-Friday from 8am to 5pm with extended hours as needed based on departmental need, to include some weekends and evenings.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to regularly lift, push, and pull up to 20lbs of recruiting materials.
  • Ability to move about and actively engage with others for extended periods during event preparation, execution of event, and post event activities.
  • Ability to travel extensively by vehicle or plane.
