Summary of Position: Responsible for managing the relationship between Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University (KCAD) and prospective students by helping them make an informed college choice. Responsibilities include regional and national travel, high school visits and presentations, prospective student interviews, portfolio reviews, general and academic advising for the registration of new students, and participation in both on/off campus recruitment events. The Admissions Counselor is the primary point of contact between the college and potential students. The Admissions Counselor assists the college in achieving yearly enrollment goals. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Enrollment Services at KCAD. This is a full-time temporary position. Position end date is to be determined based on the return date of regular employee.

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Required Work Experience: Demonstrated successful customer relations experience. Demonstrated excellent computer and communication experience.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: Bachelor’s degree in visual arts or related field of study from an accredited college or university.
Demonstrated successful recruitment experience.
Working knowledge of Banner software.
Work experience using a Customer Relationship Management platform such as SalesForce or other platform.
Previous recruitment experience in a college or university setting.
Bilingual (English and Spanish speaking)
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Manage an assigned recruiting territory.
Plan and manage the implementation of personal follow-up strategies with prospective students, applicants, educators, and other supporters.
Plan and execute travel to make classroom presentations, counseling office visits and attend other recruitment events as assigned.
Represent the college at portfolio days, college fairs, college nights, and other recruitment activities as assigned.
Conduct portfolio reviews and critiques.
Attend appropriate college day/night programs and National Portfolio Days.
Counsel students and their supporters through the decision-making process including admissions requirements and process, housing, scholarships and financial aid opportunities, and campus life.
Plan and participate in all campus recruitment events.
Provide campus tours.
Assist in training student ambassadors to conduct on campus tours.
Collaborate with Admissions colleagues throughout Ferris State University
Perform extensive seasonal travel, including nights and weekends.
Be available to work evenings and weekends for Admissions events.
Use effective written correspondence and the associated tools to communicate with inquiries and applicants (social media platforms, email and CRM).
Serve as the initial advising counselor, recommending and referring students to support resources as well as registering new students (FTIAC, Transfer and Readmits).
Manage recruitment expense reports and travel card per University policy and fiscal accountability.
Maintain confidentiality of designated information in accordance with FERPA.
Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
Demonstrate an understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members.
Marginal Duties/Responsibilities: Work with other college offices such as Financial Aid, Academic Records and Student Engagement;
Evaluate incoming student laptop, software, and other technology requirements in the form of laptop waivers.
Serve on college/university committees as assigned.
Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated ability to interact effectively in both advising and public relations capacity with prospective students and the community.
Ability to think critically and solve complex problems.
Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively.
Organizational ability, high energy, and creative initiative.
Knowledge of the offerings of the college and an understanding of the mission and vision of the college.
Visual and verbal skills to evaluate student artwork/portfolios.
Knowledge of Apple products and software, and experience working with database systems.
Strong interpersonal skills including strong verbal and written communication skills required.
Successful candidates will have demonstrated experience in working with diverse populations, and supporting an inclusive and equitable community.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule that includes extended travel.
Valid driver’s license required, dependable transportation, and ability to drive for extended distances.
Demonstrated commitment, experience, and understanding for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
