Position Summary
Chief operational and financial administrator in support of the complex and interrelated missions (clinical, research, education) of a clinical department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences within the College of Medicine (COM). Serve as department management liaison and develop relationships with faculty, residents, leadership and staff at UNMC, Central Administration, other Colleges, Nebraska Medicine, other health systems, VA, practice plans, and the community. Lead and participate in complex strategic decision making and programmatic development that impacts the department, other departments, COM, Nebraska Medicine and other organizations.

Required Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of industry benchmarks, best practices and total quality management 
techniques for process improvement 
• Knowledge of employment laws, healthcare rules and regulations, policies and 
procedures 
• Ability to manage cash flow 
• Previous experience with departmental budgeting and management of multiple 
funding sources, financial analysis, modeling and third party reimbursement 
• Ability to manage multiple complex projects and initiatives simultaneously 
• Demonstrated skill in establishing and maintaining analytical, organizational, written 
and oral communication 
• Ability to ensure coordination and optimization of services across service lines, 
including, medical, nursing, ancillary, administrative and academic teams as well as 
the ability to get things done 
• Broad and thorough knowledge of organizational management theory and practice, 
financial systems and controls, research regulations and accounts, healthcare 
regulations, IT system and financial management. 
• Use initiative, independent judgement and highest level of confidentiality in all efforts 
and interactions 
• Ability to apply project-management techniques to support strategic plan 
• Advanced understanding of health care financial management concepts 
• Understanding of principles, methods and procedures of modern healthcare 
administration and organization, including linkage system with other health 
organization 
• Awareness of applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations related to 
clinical operation and professional fee billing 
• Knowledge of trends and issues that will affect the future of physician practices and 
ambulatory care services
