Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The School of Dental Medicine is composed of ten administrative offices and four academic departments. The Administrative units include the Offices of the Dean, Vice Dean, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Associate Dean for Research, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Associate Dean for Extramural Clinical Practices, Assistant Dean for Dental Education and Informatics, Assistant Dean for Educational Support and Faculty Development, Assistant Dean for Academic Success and the Assistant Dean for Business Operations and Financial Affairs. The four academic departments are Surgical Sciences, Pediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, General Dentistry and Foundational Sciences.
Included in the mission of the School of Dental Medicine is to educate dental care providers (both dental students and dental residents) and to address the oral health care needs of the underserved population of North Carolina. The School of Dental Medicine meets these missions by operating dental clinics that provide both educational experiences for the dental students and residents and provides dental care to the residents of North Carolina. These clinics occur in both Ross Hall in
Greenville, North Carolina, as well as Community Service-Learning Centers located throughout North Carolina. In order to operate these clinics, appropriate dental auxiliaries and clinical staff are needed.
Job Duties
This position reports to the Dean, working in close collaboration with the Dean’s Executive Assistant, to provide administrative support to the School of Dental Medicine. The position provides technical expertise in fulfilling a variety of tasks including preparation of presentation materials for the Dean’s office, support of alumni affairs to include event planning and direct interaction with alumni, and web page maintenance. The position also serves as a central point of contact for the dental school with job responsibilities include but are not limited to, answering
multiple phone lines, word processing, mail distribution, records/ files, assists in the processing of travel forms for the school, and other duties as assigned. The person in this position fosters goodwill and a healthy work environment by seeking to help others whenever possible and by conveying a strong but friendly customer service attitude. Additionally, this position is primary backup to the Dean’s Executive Assistant and possesses the skills and knowledge to seamlessly fill the Executive Assistants responsibilities during brief or prolonged absences and overload periods.
The volume of activities and day-to-day dynamics require that this position and the Dean’s Executive Director’s position coordinate efforts to complete routine and special assignment tasks in an efficient manner.
Minimum Education/Experience
