Description:

Position Summary The Administrative Nurse III (Nurse Manager) is accountable and responsible for providing oversight of the department day to day operations. The Nurse Manager participates in evaluative research, teaching, prioritizing patient needs, and providing leadership with resource utilization. The Nurse Manager serves as a resource for physicians, nursing and support services. The Nurse Manager identifies strategies to monitor and evaluate resource management decisions, process improvement and quality initiatives in the department. The Nurse Manager relates effectively with department team members for high quality delivery of services and maintains high quality relations with other departments and nursing units. The Nurse Manager participates in all mandatory education requirements, maintenance of records and updating of policies, procedures and skills of personnel in the department.

Duties & Responsibilities

Professional/Leadership
Motivates and manages nurses, and medical assistants.
Assist with the clinic/service line’s day-to-day clinical operations, including practice standards, staffing, fiscal management and quality improvement
Ability to comprehend clinic/service-line workflow and assist in staffing as necessary.
Assist with plans to improve staff development
Acts as a professional leadership role model
Manages, plans and monitors unit/service line activities.
Encourages and supports nursing and multidisciplinary research efforts conducted in the clinic and in the Medical Center
Responsible for continued professional growth/development by identification of learning needs and initiates strategies to meet such needs
Supervise with RN and MA, training and remediation on a daily basis.
Provide precepting and enrichment for the RN and MA staff for continuing education.
Utilizes scheduling systems to facilitate optimal staffing, scheduling.
Maintains confidentiality with patients/families, medical staff, nursing staff and interdepartmental staff.
Advocates for patients, families, and their significant others, coworkers, community, and the nursing profession
Promotes and supports Shared Leadership as the method of nursing governance
Promotes collaboration and teamwork between colleagues all members of the health care team as well as patients, their families, and significant others.
Demonstrates the highest level of customer service to internal and external customers
Effective oral and written communication.
Resolve conflict in a professional manner.
Actively participates in in timely review and response to all written communication from Ambulatory Services, Medical Center and provider.
Organizational
Adheres to and enforce the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct.
Treats patients/families, staff, students and visitors with respect and dignity.
Adheres to and enforces Nursing’s time, overtime and attendance policies.
Completes electronic learning modules and related programs as assigned by Medical Center Learning by established date.
Complies with University Health Services TB and fit-testing requirements.
Initiates resolution of patient care problems utilizing established communication channels/chain of command.
Resolves recurring clinical practice and/or related clinic performance problems.
Participates in problem solving and resolution utilizing established communication channels/chain of command.
Education/Research
Facilitates the planning, presenting and evaluating of learning/educational experiences for staff and students
Serves as resource to nursing staff, students, and medical assistants.
In collaboration with Ambulatory Services and/or Medical Center clinical education staff, directs unit-based quality initiatives and provides feedback and education to staff.
Encourages and supports nursing and multidisciplinary research efforts conducted in the clinic and in the Medical Center
Responsible for continued professional growth/development by identification of learning needs and initiates strategies to meet such needs

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
  • Three years of professional nursing experience.
  • OR
  • Two years of professional nursing experience and one year of related advanced education.
  • Current AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit specific certifications
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, family, and health care providers
  • Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on-the-job training
  • Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills and work history required.
