Position Summary

Student Life and Engagement’s (SLE) is seeking a candidate with strong supervisory and leadership experience to direct and develop a team of accountants.  Additional experience in planning, accounting, and financial analysis is required. The unit is fast paced, responding to, and supporting our partners’ business and operational decisions.  This position is part of a leadership team for the unit that directs and assesses unit operations and institutes continuous improvements to workflow and process.  Our team supports SLE’s Culinary Services and Auxiliary Sports Group Departments with combined revenues near $200 million.  Work is performed in the 1855 Place building in East Lansing, Michigan.

  • Implements solutions within designated area of responsibility to improve organizational processes and outcomes.
  • Oversees internal and external financial accounts and controls.
  • Utilizes operational/processing expertise and leverages technology to develop clear action plans with results-oriented goals for measuring success.
  • Reports critical information to senior leadership including data findings, metrics, Key Performance Indicators, market trends, and other business data points.
  • Evaluates current processes and leads the implementation of business solutions.
  • Analyzes data and report findings and seeks root causes and develops solutions and recommendations. 
  • Designs creative high quality business solutions that are on-time and on-budget by effectively managing resources.
  • Develops top quality reports and delivers well-organized, impactful presentations.
  • Creates processes to ensure confidentiality and privacy of employee information and organizational data.
  • Demonstrates awareness and appreciation for the global multi-dimensional and diverse perspectives of all, and makes decisions based upon experience, data, facts, and reasoned judgement in the organization’s line of business.
  • Coaches direct reports on utilizing business processes and procedures.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in a business-related field or in a field which corresponds to the particular department of employment; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in office procedures and administration, or in performing responsibilities related to the operational activities of the employing unit; experience in a supervisory role; experience with word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation software and/or desktop publishing, web page software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
