Danville Community College developed from two institutions, Danville Technical Institute and the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute opened in 1936 as Danville Textile School, becoming Danville Technical Institute just after World War II. The Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute first began as an engineering division in 1946, and was later expanded to include the first two years of course work for all engineering, business administration, liberal arts, and science majors. Beginning in the summer of 1966, all programs taught by Danville Technical Institute were brought under the Virginia Department of Community Colleges. Effective July 1, 1968, the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute merged with the existing community college providing the comprehensive programs now offered.
The Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Workforce Services provides administrative support to the Vice President of Workforce Services, assists in information processing, and general support in workforce program development and implementation.
Job Duties:

  • Greets visitors and assists in directing them to the appropriate service(s).
  • Coordinates meetings and appointments for the Vice President of Workforce Services.
  • Interprets college policies and procedures to individuals and organizations seeking workforce educational services.
  • Creates faculty personnel folders for adjunct lecturers and trainers to insure they meet administrative review and requirements.
  • Ensures lecturers’ contracts are in compliance with according policies.
  • Serves as divisional payroll officer, processing payments for non-credit adjunct instructors, obtains approvals from VP of Workforce Services, the college President, and Business Office.
  • Compiles data for processing adjunct’s lecturer’s evaluations.
  • Serves as Campus Contact Person for Workforce Services and the (Workforce Enterprise System – WES) Non-Credit Web Application and Registration.
  • Trains college staff on WES/Lumens and NIC software.
  • Participates in weekly webinars for training purposes on WES/Lumens, NIC Software, Domicile, FANTIC grants/WCG and Credentials.
  • Reviews and recommends student requests for career studies certificates.
  • Prepare Acceptance Program letters to students (Main. Mech., Indust. Sys. Tech., Indust. Machine Tech., Electrical/Electronics, Precision Machining, Welding, and Dimensional Inspection).
  • Prepare Special Arrangement Contracts and Memorandum of Understanding for contracted programs/courses and disseminate when necessary.
  • Maintain records and documentation for record-keeping as required.
Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

  • Excellent customer service and organization skills with the ability to multi-task and to greet/direct visitors as needed.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, gained through experience in office practices, procedures, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Exceptional professionalism and ability to work with diverse constituents, to include college and government officials, faculty and staff, students, the community, and the general public.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle highly sensitive, confidential documents and communications.
  • Ability to compile, interpret, and report out data.
  • Exceptional knowledge of and skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including spreadsheets and calendar programs, word processing systems, and database information systems.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and embrace the college’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
