Description


As an Administrative Assistant II in Ophthalmology’s Comprehensive and Urgent Care clinic in Westwood, you will provide administrative support to our patients and providers. You will be the first point of contact for patients  upon arrival and work closely with clinical staff to ensure patients’ needs are met. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Check-in/out patients
  • Verify insurance information and collect co-payments
  • Schedule appointments
  • Obtain prior authorizations and/or referrals
  • Reply to patient messages and triage calls

Salary Range: $24.57-34.87 Hourly

Qualifications

Required:


  • One year of experience working in a medical office.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills which promote pleasant and effective communications with patients, staff and doctors.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to maintain records in a clear and orderly manner at the direction of the Office Manager.
  • Sufficient knowledge of ophthalmology and its related terminology.
  • Working knowledge of basic medical terminology and diseases as it applies to the eye. 
  • Familiarity with current billing practices including governmental plans.
  • Experience scheduling patient appointments in a computerized system.
  • Ability to clearly speak and write in English using correct grammar
  • Sufficient computer keyboarding skills to perform appointment scheduling, encountering, emailing and other related computer tasks.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a systematic manner to maximize efficiency.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism while dealing with the stressors of operating a multi-line telephone system.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal programs to ensure reimbursement from Medicare, Medi-Cal, CCS programs and other sponsoring agencies.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to interact calmly and effectively with patients with difficult personalities.

Preferred:
  • Two years’ experience working in a medical teaching institution.
  • Two years’ experience in ophthalmology practice setting.
  • Familiarity with ophthalmology and related terminology.
  • One year of experience with an electronic medical record (EMR).
