Job Description


New River Community College is a two-year state institution of higher education operating under a state-wide system of 23 community colleges. The college is located on a one-hundred plus acre site at the intersection of U.S. Routes 11 and 100 in Dublin, Virginia. The campus provides modern, well-equipped facilities for the career technical education programs as well as for the college transfer programs. Approximately 5,000 students comprise the student body.

The college serves the educational needs of the public and assumes a duty to help provide the requirements for trained workers in the region through a combined effort with local industry, business, professions, and government. Perform office support functions for the Office of Workforce Development using initiative and good judgment to see that matters are handled in a professional, efficient, and timely manner. Enter class information in the VCCS Workforce Enterprise System (WES), run queries and undertake problem-solving in related information processing. Interact with students, potential students, NRCC personnel and the general public via telephone, email and in-person communication. Create and organize course packets and other materials. Support the Trades Renewal program and assist in processing a variety of credentials earned by students in non-credit programs. Assist with other tasks as assigned by the Vice President and the Workforce Development Coordinators.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
Significant work experience in an office setting with demonstrated knowledge of effective office practices. Good organizational skills, oral and written communication skills, and computer skills. Ability to interact with other personnel in a professional manner and provide excellent customer service to students, area employers and the public. Ability to meet deadlines while working effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Capability and/or demonstrated potential in use of enterprise computer systems. Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft office applications. Knowledge of queries and databases.
Additional Considerations
Work experience in a postsecondary educational environment. Knowledge and/or experience with PeopleSoft Student Information System (SIS), Workforce Enterprise System (WES) or other comparable system.
