Job Summary

This position will support the day to day work of Stad Center Pediatric Pain, Palliative, and Integrative Medicine Service at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, San Francisco. The mission of the program is to help children live as well as possible for as long as possible by integrating treatments aimed at promoting quality of life into UCSF’s cutting‐edge medical care. Through expert clinical practice, research, education and family support, The Stad Center strives to enhance families’ strengths, the quality of their time together, as well as their capacity to cope with the illness, the child’s end of life period and death.
Responsibilities of the incumbent include managing daily administrative operations, supporting the work of the Stad Center team members, as well as participating in collaborative efforts to develop, maintain and execute quality clinical practice, educational training, and research activities. The analyst will collaborate with the team to develop resources for programming as identified by clinical staff, help organize, implement and evaluate educational activities for health care staff. The position is also responsible for maintaining and analyzing patient referral statistics as an indicator of program outcomes. Furthermore, the analyst will assist with interview and survey-based research projects to assess families’ needs and evaluate the effectiveness of the program components. Additional duties include regularly maintaining the administrative tasks within the bereavement program, the bereavement database, and implementing family support programs, which are central to the success of a pediatric palliative care program. 

The Stad Center for Pediatric Pain, Palliative Care, and Integrative Medicine Services at UCSF Benioff
Children’s Hospitals provides care across the continuum from acute to chronic/complex pain to palliative
and hospice care and integrative medicine in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. Our comprehensive
multidisciplinary approach provides patients and families with the most up to date pain and symptom
management therapies that prioritize pain prevention, pain relief, comfort, and healing. We embrace a
multimodal approach to analgesia, which includes integrative therapies, psychosocial support, and pain
anesthesia-based modalities to provide the highest quality of care in pain and symptom prevention,
assessment, and treatment. Our team is comprised of pediatric pain anesthesiologists, pain hospitalists,
palliative care providers, integrative medicine practitioners, registered nurses, social work, spiritual care,
and grief and loss support.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $29.05 - $53.50 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications

•    BA/BS with a major in health science or related field and experience in administrative analysis or operations research, OR an equivalent of both.
•    Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher and Access).
•    Familiarity and compliance with various governmental regulations in the area of human research, including IRB/CHR guidelines, agency protocol (e.g. NIH) and good clinical practices.
•    Thorough understanding and experience in managing program budget, including account reconciliation policies and procedures.
•    Strong organizational, communication, and writing skills.
•    Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy to ensure reliability of data and documentation of outcomes.
•    Ability to prioritize and meet multiple deadlines and handle a variety of tasks simultaneously.
•    Must be flexible, self-directed, and able to work independently.


Preferred Qualifications

•    Due to the medical complexity of patients at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, the analyst should have understanding of medical terminology and hospital organization systems, operations and reporting. This will enable accurate data gathering, reporting and appropriately designed research instruments.
•    Experience, training or advanced degree in Public Health, Public Policy/Administration, or a health related field is preferable (not sure we need to keep advanced degree as preferred).
•    Bilingual in Spanish/English.
•    Previous experience working on a research project either in an administrative or research assistant capacity in an academic, non-profit, or research setting. Previous experience with SPSS.
•    Previous experience and proficiency with professional writing, such as preparation of grants, marketing material, research summaries/reports, business plan, annual report, etc.
