Job Title:

Adjunct Professor – Engineering Department

Job Summary:

The University of San Francisco (USF) Engineering Department is looking for an instructor for an introductory course in systems modeling through differential equations and numerical methods for the Spring 2024 semester.

Full Job Description:

The engineering program at USF is a student-focused, hands-on program immersed in a Jesuit liberal arts education. This course is an introductory course in systems modeling through differential equations and numerical methods. The objective of the course is to teach students the mathematics of dynamic systems that follow first and second order differential equations, and through that, study a variety of different systems, natural and engineered, from the common lens of systems science. Throughout the course, students gain experience in mathematical modeling of systems of varying complexities, and use mathematics and programming skills to predict the behavior of these systems. The course combines theoretical work, programming and use of software, and conceptual big-picture thinking about how systems work and how we can improve them.

The main course is 4 units  plus a 2 unit computational component or lab. The course (including the computational component) meets three times per week for ~2 hours each. In addition, the instructor will hold office hours. The instructor will be provided with a syllabus, textbook and materials from the previous times the course was taught. Please reach out with any questions to Lauren Sassoubre, [email protected].
