Job Summary 

The School of Construction and Design at the University of Southern Mississippi invites applications to establish a pool of qualified applicants for current and future part-time Adjunct Faculty appointments (online and/or face-to-face). Successful applicants may teach up to six semester credit hours (2 courses per semester) of undergraduate courses in Construction Management, Architectural Engineering Technology, or Interior Design online or face-to-face at our Hattiesburg, MS campus.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities  

Teach assigned undergraduate courses, including:

  • Preparing course syllabus, lectures, assignments, and other course components as necessary.
  •  Using Canvas to manage the course.
  •  Utilizing effective teaching methods to ensure that all course outcomes are met.
  • Timely evaluation of student work with constructive feedback, and assignment of grades.
  •  Being available to students for Q&A.
  • Submission of course assessments to the Program Coordinator for accreditation purposes.


Minimum Qualifications  
  • For CM: Master’s degree in a construction-related discipline and a minimum of 5 years relevant construction/design industry experience.
  • For AET and ID: 5 year Professional degree with minimum 2 year experience in architecture.
  • For CM: Ability to provide high-quality in-person instruction in areas such as: project management, estimating, scheduling, project control, materials and methods, safety, and structural design.
  • For AET: Ability to provide high-quality in-person instruction in areas such as: Architectural Design studios, Pre-Design, or Architectural Construction Documents. Working knowledge in design and documentation software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Suite as well as rendering software.
  •  Previous online teaching experience if applying for online adjunct faculty.
  •  Demonstrated student-centered approach to teaching and learning.
  •  Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  •  Demonstrated commitment to collegiality and evidence of effective communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications  
  • Previous college level teaching experience.
  • Significant construction industry experience.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
