Position Information
Adjunct faculty members are needed for the program in Digital Media Studies in the Department of English & Modern Languages. Candidates will be required to teach on campus in Princess Anne, Maryland (only occasionally the department might need instructors who can teach online). Resumes will be reviewed as needed for each semester.
Responsibilities
  • Teaching responsibilities may include courses in Intro to Media, Global Media, Media Ethics, Studio or Field Production, Intro to Audio, Broadcast Journalism, and Speech. 
  • Qualified instructors may also teach other courses as needed in film production or film studies. 
  • Instructors will use Canvas to track attendance, record early intervention efforts, and post grades for each class.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Communications, Digital Media or a closely related discipline. OR a Bachelor’s degree in the discipline with the equivalent amount of professional/industry experience (5+ years) 
  • One year of college teaching experience in the discipline or the equivalent amount of experience working with student interns, mentoring, advising, etc
  • Demonstrated expertise in digital media equipment, tools, and software as they pertain to the specific course applying to teach. 
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (such as Canvas, Blackboard, etc.) or a willingness to learn. 
  • Familiarity with the mission of a land-grant HBCU.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree plus 5+ years professional or industry experience in the course applying to teach; or Bachelor’s degree plus 10+ years professional or industry experience in the course applying to teach. 
  • Experience with diverse student populations and inclusive and culturally responsive teaching. 
  • Passion for undergraduate teaching and mentoring. 
  • Familiarity with the complex organizational structure of a university.

  • A strong commitment to teaching excellence.
  • Ability to instruct students of varying preparation and abilities.

  • Ability to create inclusive learning experiences that will help undergraduate students to develop the skills of the discipline.
  • Ability to assess student performance and learning.
  • Willingness to implement the department’s standardized syllabus if applicable.
