Position Summary
The Department of New Media, Art, & Technology (NMAT) at Indiana University Kokomo invites interested and qualified applications to the adjunct instructor pool for the following subject: Art History.
Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline/field of study to students from a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Teaching may include a variety of formats: face to face, remote, and online. Adjunct faculty are employed to teach up to 9 credit hours in the fall and spring semester and/or up to 6 credit hours during summer session. Teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs. The adjunct faculty contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment.
One of eight campuses of Indiana University, Indiana University Kokomo is a comprehensive non-residential campus located 50 miles north of Indianapolis in Kokomo, Indiana, a city with a population of about 60,000. Starting salary is commensurate as based on assigned instructor level, education, and experience.
Duties and Tasks:
  • Teach specific classes in the designated discipline.
  • Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
  • Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
  • Adhere to the policies, procedures, and regulations of Indiana University Kokomo.
  • Maintain current competence in the discipline or field of specialization.

Essential Functions:
  • The ideal candidates for the above position will have prior teaching or training experience and the appropriate expertise. Candidates should have an earned master’s degree or Ph.D. in Art History or sufficient working history and experience in an appropriate field of Art History.
  • As a part of the primary responsibility to provide quality instruction, the University expects each faculty member to meet assigned classes regularly, submit required records and reports routinely, teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts, and adhere to the statement on professional ethics by university policies, procedures, and regulations.

Additional Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience teaching in higher education and graduate school.
  • Experience teaching in face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and varying levels of proficiency.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Expertise in the discipline of art history.
  • Two years teaching experience.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills.
  • Ability to teach during the day, evening, or weekend or a combination of all
  • Ability to use instructional technology.
  • A Master’s degree in Art History or a Master’s degree in a related discipline with 18 graduate semester credit hours in Art History.
