Job Description Summary:
The School of Nursing at the University of Kansas Medical Center seeks part-time nursing educators to join our progressive and innovative faculty, staff, and students. This is a temporary adjunct position responsible for teaching students in the clinical environment as part of the Traditional BSN Program on the Kansas City Campus. Other responsibilities include mentoring students and evaluation of educational activities. This position reports to Associate Dean of Academic and Faculty Affairs for the KU School of Nursing.

Job Description:

Required Qualifications

Education/Licensure:

  • Graduate degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the State of Kansas or a multi-state RN license issued by another Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state

Work Experience:

  • At least 1 year of relevant patient care experience

  • Excellent communication skills as evidenced by application materials.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Doctorate in nursing from an accredited school of nursing

Work Experience:

  • Experience teaching in a baccalaureate nursing program

  • 2 years of relevant patient experience

  • Demonstrated excellence in nursing education or precepting.

Skills:

  • Strong organizational, management, and leadership skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, and with individuals at various organizational and educational levels.

Job Duties Outlined:

  • Guide students in various clinical care areas, including hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare settings.

  • Collaborate with department faculty to ensure alignment with program objectives.

  • Foster Critical thinking, analytical skills, communication, and problem-solving abilities among students. 

  • Collaborate with nursing faculty to prepare for clinical, lab, and simulation instruction. 

  • Create a clinical learning environment conducive to effective learning within resource limits.

  • Enforce appropriate rules and expectations for students in compliance with KUMC policies.

  • Utilize technology tools effectively, including learning management systems, e-mail, and office software.

  • Fairly evaluate student progress using established methods.

  • Maintain accurate records as required by administrative guidelines and legal standards.

  • Attend scheduled clinical and lab classes.

  • Other Duties as assigned.
