Description

Molecular diagnostics are a crucial part of personalized medicine. Molecular diagnostic methods such as PCR, qPCR, RT-PCR and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) can be used to detect infectious diseases (including specific variants), confirm hereditary diseases and to determine the appropriate cancer treatment and monitor treatment progress. In order for patients to receive accurate diagnoses and correct treatment, molecular diagnostic methods must be consistent, accurate, and reliable. The Applied Genetics Group works to develop standards for molecular diagnostics (such as viral reference materials) in order to harmonize measurements. Additionally, the Applied Genetics Group collaborates with industry and other metrology institutes to investigate factors that cause biases and inaccuracies in results. Applicants with experience in molecular biology, qPCR, digital PCR, or next-generation sequencing are encouraged to apply.
