Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Political Science resides within the College of Arts and Sciences. The Department of Political Science is the fourth largest undergraduate major in the College with more than 700 majors, a graduate program of approximately 80 students in residence and 44 tenure/tenure-track and fixed-term faculty. The Department of Political Science at UNC is committed to a vision of the University where all members of the community feel welcome, valued, and can thrive.
Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide to the Department’s Chair and Business Officer the following services: maintain and report financial accounting data including but not limited to: account reconciliation; journal entries; management of invoices and expenditures; receipts and deposits and reporting for all sources of funding in the department. These accounts include funds from state, trust and sponsored research. The position will manage property assets and CCI computer inventory including the updates of departmental risk management insurance each year. The position will reconcile the departmental P-Card, Travel and serve as the parking coordinator liaising with the Parking Office. Other administrative duties will be required as needed.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Knowledge of and prior experience with financial transaction standards in reading, interpreting, and reconciling financial data is essential for success in this position. In addition, experience with Excel Spreadsheets and output from financial systems is important. Experience in creating/using/manipulating Excel workbooks and the ability to multi-task with a high level of accuracy is required.
Excellent written and communication skills, the ability to work independently, and excellent independent decision-making skills are also needed.
