The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for an Accountant II. The Accountant II works within the Comptroller's Office on the Dahlonega campus. Duties include general ledger reconciliation, audit compliance and various reporting requirements using the Peoplesoft Financials program. This position does a great deal of research in accounting and various policies and procedures in support of the Comptroller's Office. Occasional Saturday work required at peak times & during summer hours.

  • Ensure that all accounting transactions are made in accordance with the generally accepted accounting principles and federal, state, university and GASB guidelines.
  • Prepare journal request, conducts monthly reconciliations; reviews electronic deposits.
  • Prepare recurring financial reports for state and/or federal agencies.
  • Be responsible for reconciling bank accounts.
  • Review accounting practices to ensure compliance with guidelines; conducts review of department cash handling; follows up on cash deposit  discrepancies.
  • Co-Coordinates records retention ensuring compliance with University Systems of GA records retention schedules.  Oversees proper destruction and/or transfer of documents some of which contains sensitive data.  Analyze record keeping problems and offer solutions & guidelines.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software. 
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and Microsoft Excel required. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills. 
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines. 
  • Strong Peoplesoft skills are preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of experience in accounting procedures required. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Software. 
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel required (including pivot tables).
  • Degree in Business, Accounting or Finance preferred.  
  • Relational database familiarity preferred. 
  • Strong PeopleSoft skills are preferred.
