UTHealth Houston Neurosciences is hiring for an Accountant II to join their team of professionals. The Accountant  will be responsible for providing assistance with daily operations in cash handling and management activities; preparation and distribution of financial statements & reports; monitoring, maintaining, and reconciling accounts, departmental revenues & expenditures; preparing and submitting journal entries to accurately close the monthly fiscal period and more. Healthcare, government agency, or educational institution work-related experience is a plus!

Position Summary:

Provides the application of advanced accounting knowledge and abilities in the preparation of a variety of complex regular and special financial reports and statements for the Department of Neurosciences.

Position Key Accountabilities:

1.  Utilizes monthly financial statements to advise departments of cash flow management in order to assist the departments with proper utilization of financial resources.
2.  Produces departmental cost analysis utilizing reports and spreadsheets.  Communicates with the departments to provide a detailed analysis of income and expenditure transactions.  Reviews operational functions or the tests of service rates/cost management.
3.  Prepares periodic financial reports to outside agencies through analysis of department accounts and the assimilation of department financial statements to ensure compliance with accounting regulations of those agencies.
4.  Reviews requests for disbursements of grant funds by verifying availability of funds to ensure proper utilization of grant funds/contracts and grants.
5.  Gathers, calculates, and transfers university funds to payroll payables by applying stated guidelines and budget allocations to ensure proper accounting of employee payroll funds.
6.  Monitors department accounts, prepares reports of income and expenditures, and interprets the reports for the departments.
7.  Sets up new accounts, particularly grant accounts.
8.  Assists Principal Investigators in preparing budgets for grant proposals.
9.  Produces various reports such as the Report of Expenditure of Time and Effort reports to federal granting agencies, quarterly reports to the federal government on uses of federal funds, and reports to various federal and state agencies (TRS, U.S. Savings Bonds, IRS, etc.).
10.  Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or its equivalent with at least twenty-four (24) hours of college level accounting credit.

Minimum Experience:

Two (2) years of experience in accounting.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
