Position Highlights

The University of Arizona's Fred Fox School of Music is looking for an Opera Coach/Accompanist. The candidate must have experience as a vocal coach and as a Kapellmeister, with excellent diction skills in English, German, Italian and French, serving as a rehearsal leader, pianist, and individual/group coach in Opera. The ideal candidate should be able to work as a team-player and excited to work with student singers at a variety of levels of competence in preparation of opera scenes, roles, and productions.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide skilled and researched leadership from the piano as a musical rehearsal leader/pianist, diction coach.
  • Provide training for performances and practices.
  • Assist the Director of Opera Theater in class and in individual coaching for the Opera
  • Communicates information in scheduling, expectations, knowledge and experience  with internal areas/faculty/staff and students as they apply to the preparation of opera performances.
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to coach Diction of the following languages: English, Italian, German, and French.
  • Ability to collaborate as a pianist working with singers and operatic/orchestral scores.
  • Vocal coaching skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in collaborative piano, or comparable professional experience.
  • Experience as a Kapellmeister.
  • Experience as a vocal coach.
