Summary of Job Duties:

The Accessibility Specialist will support the Director of Accommodation and Accessibility Services/ADA Coordinator in addressing accessibility for the campus at large. The Accessibility Specialist will provide accessibility services to employees, faculty, applicants, campus visitors, and students (as appropriate) with a special focus on facilities access. The Accessibility Specialist will play a pivotal role in responding to accessibility concerns, while also consulting with the appropriate University officials to ensure consistent support is provided in accordance with University policy. The Accessibility Specialist will provide educational opportunities to the campus on accessibility topics, while promoting adherence to accessible guidelines.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a directly related field from an accredited institution of higher education

  • At least two years of experience directly related to knowledge and understanding of ADA accessibility regulations, guidelines, and standards

  • Demonstrated intercultural competence, and commitment to equity, inclusion, and accessibility practices

  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Experience in maintaining confidentiality

Applicable equivalencies may be considered on the above qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or Certification in a directly related field from an accredited institution of higher education

  • Working experience in a university or college with directly related to knowledge and understanding of ADA accessibility regulations, guidelines, and standards

  • Experience in delivering effective presentations to large- and small-scale audiences

  • Experience in using a case management system such as Symplicity Advocate/GME/Accommodate

  • Experience with facility and site accessibility and evaluating barrier removal

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSAs):

  • Skilled in facilitating problem-solving with regarding equal access and accessibility priorities

  • Strong listening, interpersonal, and communication skills

  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply state and federal laws governing the Americans with Disability Act as Amended (ADAAA) and Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act rules and regulations; including facility and site accessibility, and the need to ensure that communication and information technology is accessible to people with disabilities

  • Ability to use independent judgement to manage and communicate on accessibility issues

  • Ability to communicate with and relate to individuals of diverse disabilities and backgrounds
