Academics RadOnc Physics Resident I

Under the supervision and in close consultation with Qualified Medical Physicists and Radiation Oncologists, the Radiation Oncology Physics Resident supports all aspects of Medical Physics in Radiation Oncology, including clinical support, quality assurance, and technical developments and research with the goal of improving the technical sophistication, efficiency, quality, and safety of Radiation Oncology treatment and research efforts. The Physics Resident actively collaborates in clinical development and research projects, research protocols, publications, and presentations. 

The Physics Resident will meet the specific training requirements, which includes a combination of practical and didactic training such as seminars/conferences, teaching rounds, research, and scholarly activities. The Physics Resident's level of independence increases as they progress through the  training program. Training is structured in yearly increments for a two year period. All aspects of this position will be carried out within the provision of Federal, State, and Local regulatory agencies while also following appropriate guidance from relevant professional organizations.

• Responsible (with the rest of the clinical physics group) for calibration, testing, commissioning and quality assurance programs for all radiation therapy treatment, simulation, and imaging equipment, including linear accelerators, simulators, brachytherapy and imaging systems.
• Performs, evaluates, designs, and oversees routine quality assurance procedures for all radiation oncology treatment, treatment planning, imaging, and dosimetry systems
• Provides technical assistance, consultation, development of improved techniques, and oversight of all clinical treatment planning for patients undergoing radiation therapy
• Responsible (with the rest of the clinical physics group) for monitoring radiation safety in radiation oncology facilities; designs and evaluates shielding for treatment and imaging rooms; monitors staff training and radiation safety procedures
• Consults with physicists, physicians, dosimetrists, radiation therapists and CT technicians to improve simulation, treatment planning, treatment, and other aspects of radiotherapy.
• May provide assistance and/or support for research projects.
• Participates in seminars/conferences, teaching rounds, and scholarly activities.

Educational Requirements:

• Master's Degree    In Medical Physics or a related field  (Minimum). Doctorate Degree    In Medical Physics or a related field    (Preferred)
• Experience: No experience required
