Job Summary

The Academic Services Librarian is responsible for leading Harvard Kennedy School (HKS) Library & Research Services (LRS) academic support services such as academic integrity training, citation management, and peer writing tutor program; supporting course materials processing; providing curricular and instructional support for HKS courses and faculty; and coordinating LRS support of HKS capstone seminars. The Academic Services Librarian also contributes to broader library and research services at the direction of the Manager of Collections and Library Services and supports the mission of the Harvard Kennedy School.

Position Description

  • Leads academic support services such as academic integrity education and citation management. Hires and supervises peer writing tutors. Incorporates ongoing assessment to continually improve training, services, and programs.
  • Co-leads course materials processing with the Digital Collections Librarian which includes providing accessible course materials in compliance with the Harvard University Digital Accessibility policy, and training and communicating with faculty and faculty assistants. 
  • Leads overall engagement of LRS in HKS courses, including tracking and improving course engagement across LRS; embedding as a designated course librarian and/or identifies, facilitates, and tracks other LRS staff involvement in coursework.
  • Coordinates LRS engagement with HKS capstone seminars which includes designing and delivering instruction on library resources and desk research to capstone courses and collaborating with the Research Data Steward on designing and delivering research data management trainings.
  • Consults with faculty on identifying resources for syllabi that support desired learning outcomes, with an eye toward diversifying course materials regarding authorship, content, and perspective.
  • Provides reference services and research consultations, including a regular shift at the Library Services Desk. 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 4 years of professional experience in a library (preferably in an academic setting) OR
  • Master's degree and at least 2 years of professional experience in a library (preferably in an academic setting)

This is a hybrid position based on our campus in Cambridge, MA.  As a campus-based institution, we place a high value on the in-person experience, cross-team collaboration, and strong community building in order to create a vibrant campus for our students, faculty, staff, and research fellows. The position is required to work in-person on campus a minimum of three (3) days per week during the academic year. Specific days and schedule will be determined between you and your manager.

Salary Range: $74,200 - $126,200
Note: Starting salaries typically fall in the lower half of the salary range; however, they are ultimately determined by the scope of the position, the candidate's relevant experience, and internal equity.


Work Format Details

This is a hybrid position that is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
