Posting Context Statement
The Recruitment/Retention Specialist will provide student support service by assisting with application processes, reviewing admissions criterion and financial aid. This position is responsible for continued retention support during the duration of the grant to include secondary advising support, establishing tutoring, monthly programs and activities and referrals to support services. This position is responsible for independently designing and executing a regional recruitment plan for presentations at the 11MOU Tribal Reservations.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Director of NASC, The UI Native American Student Center (NASC) Recruitment/Retention Specialist will be based out of the University of Idaho’s Moscow campus and will assist in the planning, coordination and implementation of a culturally responsive recruitment plan, with targeted strategies and marketing programs for tribally enrolled students from the 11 UI MOU reservations who are interested in the University of Idaho New Beginnings Program. This position is responsible for independently designing and executing a regional recruitment plan for presentations at the 11 MOU Tribal Reservations.

Duties may include:
  • Recruitment of students
  • Developing, organizing and maintaining recruitment and retention programs for students and their families
  • Providing services on financial aid college admissions
  • Maintaining records on service delivery for reporting to the grantor
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications


Required Experience
  • Collaborating with faculty, staff and students in programs andinitiatives that are specifi cally designed to assist historicallyunderrepresented students achieve their education goals
  • Program Development experience
  • Using computer software and applications for word processing, email, internet searches and data organization
  • Explaining and implementing policies and procedures
  • Speaking publicly to small and large groups
  • Experience with federally recognized tribes
Required Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in social sciences, human services, adult education or counseling
Required Other
  • Must be able to:
    • Travel for extended amounts of time
    • Occasionally work nonstandard business hours
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university-owned vehicles
Additional Preferred
  • Master’s Degree in social sciences, human services, adult education, counseling, or closely related field
  • Demonstrated excellent knowledge of and respect for indigenous cultural identities and values
  • Knowledge of university, state and tribal policies, procedures and programs
  • Experience with federal and state regulations and requirements regarding administration of grants
  • Knowledge of financial aid, college admissions, recruitment, career and life skills development
  • Excellent communication skills and experience promoting activities using skills such as writing, advertising, marketing, public relations and design
  • Demonstrated experience in Organizational Skills: compiling and analyzing information; identifying and defining problems/alternatives and developing recommendations; displaying strong organization skills, presenting information clearly and concisely; planning, organizing and implementing workshops, programs and conferences
